EGU 2012 General Assembly: the highlights

19 Jun

The most recent video uploaded to EGU’s YouTube page, the EGU 2012 General Assembly highlights video, brings back good memories. It’s a compilation of some of the best moments at the conference and was produced by Sue Voice, who worked at the press office in Vienna.

Sue says, “Part of my role in the media team at EGU2012 involved producing short movie clips and photos for EGU’s social media platforms. This movie clip was not quite conventional; it was mostly captured with an iPad2, edited in iMovie and the final product compiled in Motion4. With over 11,000 people attending the EGU 2012 General Assembly, it was a wonderful challenge to try and capture the essence of the event. I had a fantastic time and learnt a lot during my week in Vienna and made many new friends. Thank you to all the people who appear in the movie, you are all stars of EGU2012. Also, a big thank you to Bárbara T. Ferreira and Edvard Glücksman for allowing me the opportunity to explore and create.”

Thank YOU Sue!

Can you spot yourself, or one of your geoscience colleagues, in the video?

What did you like about the EGU 2012 General Assembly?

In the most recent video uploaded to EGU’s YouTube page, Sue Voice, who worked at the press office in Vienna, asks General Assembly participants what they like the most about the conference. Check out their answers in the clip below!

And you, what did you like about EGU 2012?

Keeping connected with the EGU

24 Jun

There are various ways to keep connected with the European Geosciences Union, more are being developed but the current ones are below.

The EGU General Assembly 2011 Survey is open until 30 June, it can be completed online. The results of these GA Surveys are examined carefully and helped when making important decisions for future General Assemblies.

Within the social media realm (alongside this blog) the EGU is on Twitter. There is an EGU group on LinkedIn, this is not an open group in that your membership has to be confirmed. There is a static page on Facebook which is not updated that much, but directs people to other online information about the EGU. The web streamed events from General Assemblies since 2008 are available online at EGU TV.

EGU General Assembly 2010 Questionnaire

21 Jun

Participants of the EGU GA 2010 should have received an email including a link to the EGU GA 2010 Feedback Questionnaire.

Last year (2009), the GA feedback form asked 19 questions. 1,549 responses were received which helped make many important decisions for the EGU GA 2010 and general EGU council decisions. This year, EGU GA participants are being asked to take 5-10 minutes of time to complete the short questionnaire as your input is important in shaping of the EGU GA 2011, to be held 03–08 April 2011, Vienna, Austria.

Shortly a very short questionnaire will be available regarding Social Media activities specifically.

The Role of Science in Climate Policy making

5 May

If you missed the Great Debate on Tuesday lunchtime you can watch the webstream. What do you think should be the role of science in climate policy making?

The next Great Debate is on Thursday 6th May, in Room D, 15:30-17:15 on Getting real about energy.

Written Feedback on the EGU GA 2010

4 May

In addition to the usual summing up and evaluation meetings for the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2010, this year there is the possibility of submitting feedback online.

If you have questions, suggestions please visit the form and fill it in.

This is a ‘quick’ mechanism for giving feedback that will go directly to the EGU GA 2010 programme chair, and will be collated and discussed amongst the programme committee and Copernicus. This form is not intended for specific suggestions for new scientific sessions at the EGU GA 2011 (this can go through the specific programme group, when the call for sessions comes out later in 2010), but rather everything else [the general infrastructure of the General Assembly, outreach suggestions, suggestions for more dynamic general meeting, etc.]
